Golf is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to things to do whilst on
holiday at Boschenmeer. To start with you are surrounded by dozens of
vineyards, most of which offer tastings and many also boast fine restaurants
where you can enjoy an inexpensive luncheon, washed down with excellent Cape
wines.
Franschhoek is just 10 minutes drive away and is noticeably French in character.
This was due to the settling Huguenots fleeing religious persecution and the
town has benefited ever since. If you are an intrepid restaurant hunter you
will find Franschoek a foodies paradise of the southern hemisphere, a jamboree
for the bon viveur and it wont cost you an arm and a leg!
After all that eating and drinking you will probably feel like some exercise.
Why not take a mountain walk or horseback ride along countless miles of forest
and mountain tracks? The more adventurous may wish to hire a mountain bike or
even go rock climbing. If that all sounds far too energetic, how about fly
fishing in the various lakes and rivers of the region?
Boschenmeer is just 30 minutes from Cape Town the Mother City. Cape Town is
dominated by Table Mountain, which is a must to enjoy the spectacular views of
2 oceans and the city laid out below you. Cape Town is a modern, thriving,
cosmopolitan city that’s exciting to visit, with a normal range of museums,
shopping malls and other visitor attractions. They even boast a casino.
Just about everyone spends some time at the newly developed Victoria and Albert
Waterfront, where there are more restaurants than you would ever have time to
sample, with food from just about every corner of the world. The friendly seal
population can also be spotted whilst you dine looking out over the water. There
are numerous boating excursions leaving from the waterfront including a ferry
to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. Game fishing is also on
offer. The Aquarium is a five minute stroll and well worth a visit.
There is a constantly changing programme of events happening by the waterfront;
one minute trick cyclists and mime artists, the next a gospel choir and the next
a company of pipers, absolutely fascinating and free! Behind the Waterfront is
the most varied, exclusive and interesting selection of shops in Africa.
Shopping is a major attraction and South Africa boasts some of the finest shopping
malls in the world, built in the American style, with acres of air-conditioned
quality shops, selling goods at prices you could only dream of in Europe.
Other local attractions include the spectacularly beautiful Kirstenbosch
Botanical Gardens situated in Constantia on the side of Table mountain. The
resort of Hermanus, 21/2 hours from Cape Town affords some of the best whale watching
in the world. On one day, 84 whales were counted in the bay. There are also game
parks within easy driving distance.
If you like beaches then you will be spoilt for choice. Within a short drive
from Boschenmeer you can find quaint fishing villages, picturesque coves and long silver
sandy beaches. You also have the choice between the Atlantic coast and the Indian Ocean.
You can drive from Camps Bay on the famous Chapman's Peak drive and onto False Bay where
you can find Boulders Beach and meet the many resident penguins.
